A Serra Club Website Template

Brought to you by the USA Council of Serra International

The USA Council of Serra International invites you to get "Online" and learn more how the world wide web can help us fulfill our mission and ministry. This basic web site template is provided here to help Serra clubs create a web presence.

The template consists of one web page that the Serra club may customize to establish a web presence. This page includes a local Serra club activities information where the club may list its vocation activities, membership information, club events, and programs. Using this template a  local Serra club can introduce themselves to a larger audience on the world wide web and keep their members informed of club activities.

Instructions

You can preview the website by clicking the logo in the upper left-hand corner of this page.

In order to customize the website for your particular club needs please:

Download each web page and image file on the right. Use your browser's FILE | Save as function to save the file under the same name to your new folder.

Use your browser's back button in order to return to the list after saving each file. For example c:\web_template.

Put all the files that your have downloaded into a single folder on your hard drive.

You may preview the downloaded files in your web browser by locating the *.htm file in the directory you just created and use the file open command of your web browser.

Now that you have seen the template and verified that runs properly on your computer you may now customize the web template to your particular Serra club. In order to do this open the file in a text editor such as "Notepad" in windows.

Your word processor will also work, but make sure that you save the file with an "*.htm" extension, as plain text, whenever you want to record your changes.

If you are unfamiliar with web programming, you might want to consider asking someone to assist you with editing the pages to avoid confusion. It is very likely someone in your club will be familiar with it. However, if not, we have included instructions in the text that should help you get started. The brackets, exclamation points, and hyphens mark these directions.

In order to get your Serra club web site on the net, you will need an Internet Service Provider (ISP). You may already have a small amount of free web space available to you through your existing Internet access account. If not, you may be able to purchase some web space for a small monthly fee from your ISP or other service provider. Contact your ISP for more details and instructions concerning its hosting services and file transfer protocol.

As an alternative, depending on the size and volume of material your Serra club wants to publish to the Internet, the USA Council would be happy to host your web site. Contact the USA Council Webmaster.
