Serra International Objectives
  • Serra’s founders wanted to create a forum for:
    • Catholic discussion
    • Catholic fellowship
  • Once established it formulated a two-part objective

1930’s and 1940’s
  • Since 1935, Serra International has moved from the informal luncheon of four men to a global association of over 19,000 individuals in thirty-seven countries
    • Padre Junipero Serra is named the group’s patron
    • A Prayer for Vocations is added to the club’s objectives

1950’s and 1960’s
  • Serra grew extensively in the 1950’s and 1960’s
  • Serra International Foundation is established
  • Relationship between Serra International and the Vatican is made
  • 1st International Congress on Vocations

1970’s and 1980’s
  • The first national councils were formed and approved by Serra International
  • Serra joins the US National Catholic Vocations Conference

1980’s – 2000
  • Serra welcomes women as members
  • 2nd International Congress on Vocations
  • USCCB adopts Serra’s Called by Name program
  • Pope John Paul II dedicates December 7, 2000 as the Jubilee Vocation Day
  • 3rd Continental Congress on Vocations

2000 - Present
  • The Year of the Eucharist
    • Sponsor tour of Pope John Paul II’s Blessed Monstrance for Vocations in USA and Canada
  • Sponsor Priesthood Sunday
  • 4th Continental Congress on Vocations
